Welcome to the University of Louisiana Lafayette Flute Studio!
The UL Lafayette Flute Studio is a vibrant and compassionate group of flutists who are learning and growing in their musicality together! We meet weekly for Studio Class, Technique Class, and the Fleur de Lis Flute Choir. We host amazing flute Guest Artists, hold Statewide flute events, and work together to improve our skills. In the past year, we have worked with Stephen Clark, Brielle Frost, Cristina Ballatori, Chelsea Tanner, and Paul Edmund Davies!
Upcoming events include UL Lafayette Flute Day 2026 (March 14, 2026) with Dr. Lisa Jelle as our Guest Artist! We will also have a chance to work with Greg Patillo of Project Trio in January 2026! Project Trio will be performing with the UL Lafayette Symphony Orchestra at the LMEA Conference in January.
If you’re interested in becoming part of this studio, please contact Dr. Little at brianne.little@louisiana.edu. Come visit campus and join us in a Studio Class! We would love for you to be a part of our flute community!
I am a student centered teacher, which means that my main focus is my students!
I want each individual student to get exactly what they NEED from private flute lessons. Since each student has different learning styles and their own unique personality, I tailor their lessons to be something that works perfectly just for them.
Regardless of the difference in each individual lesson, each student can expect to be treated with kindness, compassion, and understanding. I believe that we can hold high standards of playing and still treat ourselves and everyone around us with kindness. A high standard of playing does not have to come with negative self-talk either. We can extend that kindness and compassion to ourselves.
I believe in teaching students HOW to practice and explain WHY we practice.
I believe in consistent practice NOT constant practice.
I believe that we can be gorgeously musical and emotive AND be clean and efficient technicians on the instrument.
I believe in practicing as efficiently as possible so that we can get the most done in the shortest amount of time.
I believe in making time to just play the flute because its fun!
I believe that learning and instrument can be silly, fun, and beautiful even when it is challenging.
I believe in celebrating the small daily wins just as much as the big public ones!
If you think you would like to study flute in an environment like what I’ve just described, please do not hesitate to contact me! I’d love to tell you why the University of Louisiana Lafayette would be a fantastic place for you to study the flute!
